2014 Christmas cards

November 5, 2014 | Leave a comment

I know, I know. You think it’s WAY too early to be talking about Christmas. But it’s not. There are only 7 weeks till it’s here, and when you buy Christmas cards from small indie businesses like this one, you need time for them to ship to you, time for you to write out your cards, and time for them to reach their recipients, ideally BEFORE Christmas Eve. And, you know, maybe figure in a bit of procrastination. (C’mon, admit it.)

So — we’ve added some new Christmas card designs this year and we wanted to share them with you now so you have plenty of time before you need to drop them in the mail.

Here are our new designs for 2014. Which one’s your favorite?

So many of my favorite memories…

March 20, 2014 | 1 Comment

Last year, my grandpa turned 80 and I made him a special card. This year, I’m releasing it as part of  Mother’s Day/Father’s Day series, because once I got to thinking about it, I figured there were probably a lot of other people who share this same sort of sentiment.

Father's Day card - So many of my favorite memories are on the lake with you

When I was young, I used to love going fishing with Grandpa. Sometimes it was just us two, sitting on the lake in a small boat, and sometimes my younger sister would tag along too and it’d be the three of us putting worms on hooks and waiting for the fish to bite.

Those are some of my favorite childhood memories, and so that was what inspired the card.

And even though I moved away from home 10 years ago, my mom still teaches me how to cook things whenever we’re together. (The kitchen is not my strong suit.) So then that turned into this next card.

Mother's Day card - So many of my favorite memories are in the kitchen with you

And then those turned into these.

Father's day card - So many of my favorite memories are in the garage with youMother's day card - So many of my favorite memories are in the garden with you

You know what else I like about these? Maybe your dad taught you to cook or your mom was the one tinkering with tools in the garage. Not a problem. These are perfect for anyone who is part of your favorite memories.

Have a special memory you’d like to see on a card? I’ll be accepting a limited number of custom orders, so get in touch now to reserve your spot!

New cards: I can’t imagine my wedding without you in it

February 25, 2014 | 4 Comments

When my husband and I got married nearly 10 years ago now, we had a relatively small bridal party. (And it was before Pinterest, which sometimes I wish I had, and other times I’m glad I didn’t feel the pressure to put on a Pinterest-perfect wedding.) But our bridal party had four attendants on each side, so for me, it was two friends and two sisters.

I guess you could say this card was really concepted back then, although I didn’t start making cards till much later. But I remember thinking back then that they were the people I needed up there with me, and I couldn’t imagine doing it without them.

So this card is for them, even though my wedding is long past. But I hope you future brides — and grooms! — who feel the same way about your bridesmaids and groomsmen can make good use of it now.

Also available with maid/matron of honor. Plus you can pick your color, juuuust in case you ARE planning a Pinterest-perfect wedding :)

Guys, I went with a classic black/white/gray look for you, but if you’re gonna sport a powder blue tux and want cards to match, just lemme know. (I can also customize to say best man.)

New cards, for Valentine’s Day and beyond

January 7, 2014 | Leave a comment

Personally, I’m still waiting as long as I can to take down our Christmas tree, but the truth is Valentine’s Day will be here before we know it. So I’ve added a few new cards to the shop for this season and beyond. Here’s a look at what’s new, and the thoughts behind them.

let's hold hands for always

I don’t know anyone who doesn’t want to be one of those cute old couples who’s still holding hands and pinching each other’s butts. Right?

more than 140 characters to say i love you

Sometimes it takes a little more than a tweet to say what you have to say. So grab a pen and spell it out. (Keep an eye out for future variations on this one…)

in good times and in bad

This one’s a little different than most Valentine’s Day cards you’ll see, and admittedly, different than many of my own. It’s for those times, as much as you love each other, when it’s not all puppies and rainbows. I actually made this months ago for my husband when our wedding anniversary fell just days after we had to put our beloved German shepherd to sleep. Neither of us felt very romantic, but I wanted him to know that we’d get through it, together. It’s important, I think, whether you’re mourning a loss or navigating a bump in the road or whatever it may be, to show how much you care. And judging by the quick reaction to the sneak peek I posted of this card on Instagram, many of you know what I’m talking about.

So whether you’re in a good place to send a romantical (yes I know that’s not a word) card for Valentine’s Day, or maybe not so much as usual, you’ve got options. Just make sure you tell them you care in one way or another.

THIS: Bringing social media to paper

December 13, 2013 | Leave a comment

Most of us these days spend a good bit of time using social media. And whether it’s Twitter or Instagram, we keep seeing the same phrases again and again. But it made me giggle to think about putting those words on paper and sending cards like you would a tweet. I hope it makes you giggle too.

This set is now available in the shop! Maybe I’m a teeny bit biased, but I think they’d be great sticking out of the stockings of your social media-loving friends for Christmas.

Which is why I’m teaming up with my friend Kait at CommuniKait.com to give you AND a friend a set! Just head on over to her blog to enter!

Time’s running short to get your holiday cards out to your friends and family! If you’re not sure how to personalize them for the recipients, here are a few ideas on what to write inside your Christmas cards.

2013 Christmas Cards

October 22, 2013 | Leave a comment

I know, I know. It’s too early for Christmas. But let me just remind you that it’s only 63 days away. Mmmkay? AND you have to send out Christmas cards EARLIER so they get to {enter person here who gives you a hard time for not sending Christmas cards} on time. So that’s even less days. So. As I was saying.

I’ve been brainstorming and designing some new stuff for Christmas this year. Let’s look at some pretty pictures, shall we?

Happy Day

July 11, 2013 | 3 Comments

I’ve added a new card to the shop today. Its likely use will be for celebrations, and that is fine with me, since celebrations are worth, well, celebrating with a handwritten note. But I want to tell you how this card actually came to be.

happy day

I made it for someone for Mother’s Day. My dear friend Amanda, who blogs about life, faith, and her struggle with infertility at A Royal Daughter, has been trying to have a baby for four years. I can only imagine what it must be like to want to be a mother so badly and to have to endure Mother’s Day, where the women all around you are acknowledged. Mothers are definitely worth praising (and definitely more than once a year), but that day must be so hard for women who have not been able to have a child, or who have lost one.

And so I made this card and sent it to Amanda for Mother’s Day, to wish her a “happy day,” even though it was going to be hard.

happy day back

Because it is her heart’s desire to be a mother, and so she should get to celebrate, too.

So that’s how this card came to be. As an encouragement to a friend to know she’s loved on a tough day. And every day.

A friend loves at all times

June 19, 2013 | Leave a comment

It’s been nearly two weeks since our dog Thunder passed away. I’d like to say all the tears are gone, but sometimes it still hits you that he won’t run to the bedside when you wake up or eat the piece of chicken that fell on the floor.

If you’ve ever had a pet, you know how attached you can get. Our animals become part of our families.

Thankfully, our human family has been there to support us over these last two weeks. And by human family, I mean friends, too. We’re so thankful for the thoughts and messages sent our way as we grieve.

I think it’s important that we recognize the loss of our furry family members and love on each other during such a sad time.

Since life inspires art, I’ve made two new designs that I hope you can use to support a fellow animal-lover.

This first card is a tribute to our black German shepherd — it starts with a black paw print on the back of the card, and it slowly disappears on the front. Although his life faded away, our memories of him never will.

Pet sympathy card pet sympathy card back

As I was designing and tinkering, I was thinking about what verse would be good for the back of a pet sympathy card. Proverbs 17:17 popped into my head, and it’s just perfect. So it became its own card, too. I love this one because it could be used as a sympathy card, or a thanks-for-adopting card, or a congrats-on-your-new-puppy card.

Hug your furkids tight, and remember to love on others whose pets have passed on.

We miss you, buddy.

October is here, and with it comes changing leaves, crisp air and pumpkin-flavor overload (if there is such a thing).

That means the return of the beloved pumpkin spice latte. While you might be having a spicy love affair with this once-a-year treat, you’ve still got real relationships to brew.

Birthday cards

April 2, 2012 | 3 Comments

When I first got started with RLPCo, I thought I wouldn’t do birthday cards, ’cause, well, there’s about a gazillion of them out there. But sometimes you get an idea, and you just gotta run with it. So guess what? We’re doing birthday cards.

The first one I debuted a few weeks ago. It’s an extension of our {not sent from my iPhone} line.

Birthday Card - Not sent from my iPhone

The second one I’ve been sitting on for a couple weeks months. My own birthday is now a month away, so I thought maybe this would be a good time to put this one out there and see what you guys think. I love the concept, but I just can’t figure out the right finishing touch. Here’s what I’ve got…

Fun, right? But I don’t love that text in the box. It seems … grouchy. So I’m pulling out everybody’s favorite fill-in-the-blank-and-win-a-free-card game. Submit your ideas for clever text to go inside the box, and if I choose yours, I will send you a free copy of this card (or any one you want). All you have to do is leave a comment on this post with your suggestion(s). Simple as that. Can’t wait to see what you guys come up with!

The fine print: By submitting your ideas, you agree that Red Letter Paper Company can use them for this or any item, and there will be no payment for current or future use of submissions. We reserve the right to not use any submissions, in which case a winner for a free card will be chosen at random from the commenters. If you have any questions about this policy, please feel free to email us.
